FIRST RECONCILIATION AND EUCHARIST

The Archdiocese of Atlanta requires that a student must be enrolled in religious education classes the year prior to receiving the sacraments. (i.e. the child must attend first grade religious education classes to receive the sacraments during their second grade year). Therefore, if your child is in first grade for the current year, they must attend religious education classes this year (70% attendance rate) in order to be prepared to receive the sacraments when they are in second grade.

Our parish requires that students in the second grade attend a Reconciliation Retreat, Communion retreat and complete an at home “family” course of instruction prior to the reception of the sacrament. Parents enrolling a child in the sacramental preparation program are asked to submit a copy of the child’s baptismal certificate.

A Special Sacraments class is available for students enrolled in third grade or higher and require the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

REQUISITOS PRIMERA COMUNIÓN

Estar registrado, cumplir con los dos años de preparación 70% de asistencia y traer certificado de bautismo.

Candidates for the sacrament of Confirmation must have completed two years of preparations, i.e. active participation in the Youth Ministry program with a 70% attendance rate. The candidates should be high school Sophomores or older. In addition to the regular Youth Ministry sessions, there are also special Confirmation sessions to provide immediate preparation for reception of the sacrament. Candidates must also attend a mandatory retreat and complete ten hours of community service. Please see the Youth Ministry calendar for important dates regarding the Confirmation program.

logo-decision-pointThe School of Religion utilizes the “Decision Point” curriculum published by Dynamic Catholic to prepare candidates for the reception of the sacrament. This program allows teens to hear the Gospel message in a fresh, intriguing, relevant, compelling and attractive manner. This program not only prepares our teens for the sacrament, but it hopes to also inspire teens to respond and cooperate with God’s grace in all the circumstances of their daily lives – long after Confirmation has passed. The curriculum is divided into 12 Lessons and has engaging videos that accompany the program. In addition, it has an accompanying app that can be downloaded for parents and sponsors.
